At first, it is exciting and exhilarating, you feel as though you truly have the power to make positive changes. Over time though, it often becomes more and more difficult to feel as though you are having an impact at all, let alone a positive one. If you are in a leadership position currently and you aren’t sure that you are doing a good job, it might be time to really come to terms with where you are lacking and why. You have Become Complacent

You are More Focused on Failure than Success

When you are preoccupied with counting the multiple ways you and your team have failed, you are not being mindful of your successes. When you put the many things you have done right out of your mind and instead only focus on mistakes, you are preventing progress. Try to put more weight in the things you are doing well rather than those that are going wrong.

You are Taker, Not a Giver

If there is one thing a leader should be it’s gracious. In other words, if something goes wrong, you take all the blame but if something goes right, all of the credit goes to those who work under you. In other words, you give everything you have to ensure that your team succeeds and you never take away anything from there because, without them, you wouldn’t be able to do your job.

Your Mistakes are Defining You

Plain and simple, a good leader knows that mistakes are an imperative part of success. However, many people in leadership positions try to make excuses or cover up their mistakes any time they occur. Rather than doing this, we would suggest that you own up to your mistakes and then find solutions for them. This sort of attitude will set a good example for all of your subordinates and teach them that mistakes are bound to happen, as are solutions.

You Don’t Challenge Yourself Anymore

Seeing as how we live in a quick-fix society, people are always trying to find the easiest solution to relieve them of guilt or responsibility. However, this is not an option when you are a leader. Challenge yourself to face the problems you have head-on. Know that just because something is wrong right now doesn’t mean there isn’t a way to fix it.  This is especially true of problems you have been putting off for quite a while because coming up with a solution seems like too much work. Buckle down and find a way to make the problem better.

You are Residing in Your Comfort Zone

Every successful leader knows that leadership begins when you stop feeling comfortable. If you do what you have always done, you are going to get the same sorts of results that you have always gotten. Step out of your comfort zone, find ways to challenge yourself and those who you work with and watch the magic happen.
