Google Can’t Find A New Career For You, But You Can!

Whether you like your job right now or you’re searching for something new, we’ve all been there a time or two. Sitting at our desks, our kitchen tables, on our couch, searching the internet for possible ways that you can switch up your career path is something that is very common. On the other hand, reading articles online and exploring job sites isn’t going to land you the dream job or the dream career that you want so much. Let’s talk about ways you can actually make changes when it comes to where you are in your career right now and where you’re going.

Have You Been Researching A Career Change Online?

How many hours do you think you spend scrolling through articles or reading different advice from so-called experts on how to get the career that you want on the internet? Do you think that you found anything from this practice? Even when you think you may have found a job or career that appeals to you, do you do anything about it? There is no doubt, the internet has truly changed our ability to access information. This includes information regarding possible lives we could be leading that we currently are not. However, simply just researching online isn’t going to get you where you want to be, so let’s take a look at how you can change the path you’re currently on.

You think you’ll find your dream job out of the blue.

Did you know that 80 percent of jobs out there are advertised? That’s right 80 percent. What does this mean for you when you are online looking for the perfect job? It means that you’re basically seeing everything that is out there. On the other hand, if you’re a glass half full kind of person, it means that there is a whole 20 percent that you aren’t seeing. When you’re only skimming the surface of possible jobs it’s very likely that you’re missing out on the perfect one for you. This means you shouldn’t get discouraged when you were looking online for a job. In fact, you should be excited at the possible openings that you have yet to discover.

You feel as though you’re taking some action.

This leads to our next question:  Why in the world are you searching  the internet for jobs that we both know you’re ever going to apply for? After all, while you may have the skills to do a job similar to what you’re doing now, the likelihood that you can automatically fall into a completely new field without gaining any new knowledge is unlikely. We get it, being online looking at different careers makes you feel as though you’re taking control of the situation. It makes you feel as though maybe this monotonous routine that you are in right now could change at any moment. But that just isn’t the truth, is it? In order to change the trajectory of your life you have to take action. Real action.

It allows you to be passive about your career.

We get it you have plenty of other things going on in your life besides your job.  On the other hand , simply wishing for a change isn’t going to make it happen, whether we’re talking about your friendship, your romantic life or another sector of your day to day. As we mentioned above, searching the internet is a great tool for passing time and making you feel as though you have a bit of control. The truth of the matter is however, you’re being extremely passive by simply researching every once in awhile. Again, the key to happiness in any aspect of your life is action and more importantly, being open to change.

You think the more you know, the more likely you will be to make the change.

Perhaps you have taken some action by learning something new or researching something that you didn’t know about before. Even by  acquiring new skills, this doesn’t guarantee that you will be willing to use them to get out of your current job. Think about this, you learn new things on the job all the time, but you’re still on the same position you were a year ago… What does this tell you? It means that it’s up to you. It means that making your move is in your hands and it’s time to do it right now. After all, they always say you regret the things you didn’t do, not the things you did.
