Whether it’s because of compensation or just being in the right place at the right time, how long should you really stick around? If you know that where you are currently at is not where you want to stay, it’s time to figure out which career you should pursue in order to have the future you picture for yourself. Want to know how to open yourself up to new and fresh opportunities? We can help.
Understanding What Is Available To You
When it comes to the way you look at the world, what do you see as your options? Do you have a wide view of the possibilities before you, or a narrow one? Have you fallen into a routine that you hate? Or do you like to keep things interesting? The truth is, we all fall into routines from time to time. But it’s a matter of challenging ourselves to do something fun and exciting, something outside of our normal comfort realm when we discover we’ve been doing the same old thing for far too long. When you realize that your job falls into this category, it’s time to start searching for something else. Sure, this can be a completely anxiety-ridden discovery, but it also means that you are prepared to take the next step. And that next step is so incredibly important.
What Do You Know?
The main thing to remember when you decide that you are going to look for another career is that you are a wealth of knowledge. There are plenty of things you know. You know how tall you are. You know that you hate brussel sprouts. You also know that you learned something new at least every week at your job since you started it. While it’s easy to believe that you aren’t growing as an employee, there are situations which you were put in each and every day that make you more valuable in your current position than you were the day before. These are not skills that can only be used where you currently are. Sit down and make out a list of all the things that you know, the facts if you will. Then try to spin them as though you were going to list them off to a future employer. Try to figure out how these skills would be beneficial in a different career arena. Chances are you can come up with more ways you are valuable than you realize.
What Don’t You Know?
Now it’s time to think about the things that you don’t know. What do you think you are fundamentally lacking when it comes to working skills? If it’s something that you know is needed in the majority of fields you would be interested in, it’s time to learn. Just because you don’t know something doesn’t mean you always won’t to know it. Accept the challenge that is finding something new in your job and in your life. Accept the challenge that is challenging yourself. You did it all the time when you were in grade school, and it’s never too late to learn.
What You Don’t Know You Know
Take a step back for a moment. When it doesn’t come to your job skills, you are still likely good at a ton of other things. Even if you haven’t use these skills in years, it’s time to blow off the dust and get back in touch with all of your talents. Utilizing your talents at a future job is one of the many ways you can guarantee your future happiness. Think about what you don’t know you know then you utilize it until you can’t utilize it anymore.
Changing Your Perspective
It’s easy to convince yourself that you can’t do a lot of things. You can’t leave your job. You can’t learn anything new. You can’t do what other people do when they drop their entire lives and start over. These thoughts are a mistake. You have one life and you are free to do whatever you want to with it. So do!
