In the current occupational climate, people more than ever are searching for ways to make themselves more appealing than others who they are competing for the same job. This can be difficult. After all, there are plenty of technical skills a person can have that won’t do them a bit of good when it comes to getting hired by certain companies. Let’s take computer skills as an example. You can have computer skills, but what does that really mean? After all, computers these days are capable of doing more than most of us even realize. Depending on the company you are wanting to obtain a job with, you computer skills could get you through the front door and into your very own desk or conversely, they could get you absolutely nowhere at all. SEO & Social Media Skills
Regardless of the field you are trying to break into, chances are your potential employer will be extremely impressed with you if you can exhibit that you understand the importance of giving consumers what they want. Search engine optimization as well as social media management skills are two great ways companies do this. Explaining that you know how these behind the scenes tasks can positively affect their company will let them know that you have far more to offer than what is just visible on the surface.
Critical Skills
If you can prove or even speak to your ability to assess and analyze different situations, the person interviewing you will likely be more inclined to hire you. After all, one of the main things employers want in their employees is the ability to look at data and interpret it. Not only does this save them time as they won’t have to walk you step-by-step through every single task, but they will also know that you will always be bringing them solutions to issues, even issues they didn’t know existed.
Sales Experience
While you may not have the ability to begin working a retail job at this point in your life, it is important that you can exemplify that you have the skills to sell anything to anyone at anytime. Even if you are interviewing with a company or for a position that does not require you to be a salesman, it’s like they always say “Everyone is selling something”. Find out what the person you are interviewing with is trying to sell beforehand and figure out how to sell it to them the best you possibly can.
Writing Skills
Being a good writer will get you much further than you would think. If you don’t have writing skills currently, it’s time to obtain them. There are very few jobs that do not require at least a minimal ability to write in a coherent and grammatically correct manner. Even if the only time you would have to write in a certain position would be when you were composing emails to clients and other coworkers, the amount of respect that can be lost from others due to a misspelled word or an incomplete thought is enormous.
Problem Solving Skills
In our opinion, being able to exemplify that you have problem solving skills will get you a job faster than anything else will. Employers want to hire self-starters. They want employees whose hand they do not have to hold day in and day out. They want ambitious and smart people working beneath them. If you can’t prove you are a person with these types of traits, you will probably have a fairly hard time getting hired anywhere.
